La visita guidata sar\u00e0 incentrata sulla descrizione dei due monumenti partendo proprio dal Castello Carlo V e visitando le suggestive aree di recente restauro (piazza d\u2019armi, cappella di Santa Barbara, prigioni, sotterranei e camminamenti), si proseguir\u00e0 nel centro storico, senza tralasciare informazioni riguardanti in generale lo sviluppo urbanistico della citt\u00e0 nel XVI secolo, periodo in cui si assiste ad un vero e proprio restyling monumentale. Il percorso si concluder\u00e0 nell\u2019ex Spedale dello Spirito Santo, di cui si scoprir\u00e0 la storia e si visiter\u00e0 la suggestiva cappella con gli splendidi affreschi e gli apparati decorativi seicenteschi attribuiti allo Zimbalo. Entrambi gli edifici sono visitabili grazie ad un accordo con la Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per le Province di Lecce, Brindisi e Taranto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lo Spedale dello Spirito Santo \u00e8 l\u2019unico esempio di\narchitettura civile con destinazione ospedaliera del periodo rinascimentale a\nLecce e fu fondato da Giovanni D\u2019Aymo nell\u2019anno 1392&nbsp; per essere affidato ai Padri Domenicani, del\nvicino monastero. Nel 1548, dopo varie vicissitudini, il vecchio edificio\nmedievale &#8211; divenuto inadeguato&nbsp; &#8211; verr\u00e0\ndemolito e ricostruito su progetto di Giangiacomo Dell\u2019Acaya. L\u2019architetto, che\nin quegli anni si trovava in citt\u00e0, era impegnato come amministratore (Rettore)\ndello stesso ospedale ed anche come sovrintendente ai lavori di ampliamento della\ncinta urbana e del castello. Nel corso dei secoli l\u2019Ospedale si arricch\u00ec grazie\na donazioni da parte di molti malati ed elargizioni dell\u2019aristocrazia leccese\ntanto da divenire il pi\u00f9 ricco nosocomio cittadino. Nella seconda met\u00e0 XIX\nsecolo sar\u00e0 inserito sulla facciata \u2013 dove lo troviamo ancora oggi \u2013 uno dei\nquattro orologi sincroni progettati dall\u2019ecclesiastico Giuseppe Candido, e nel\nfrattempo il complesso sar\u00e0 dismesso dalla sua funzione primitiva e destinato\nad altri usi fino a divenire dal 2011 \u00e8 sede istituzionale della Sabap per le\nprovince di Brindisi, Lecce e Taranto. <br>\n<br>\nAll\u2019interno dello Spedale dello Spirito Santo troviamo la chiesa annessa\n&#8211; in asse con una delle due infermerie del piano terra &#8211; , ripetutamente\nscialbata con latte di calce per motivi igienici e si sono pertanto celati gli\napparati decorativi attributi allo Zimbalo e risalenti al 1660. Nell\u2019aula\nunica, scandita da un sistema di quattro arcate e coperta da un\u2019ampia volta\nbotte, sono collocati sei altari laterali settecenteschi. Sulla cantoria un\norgano positivo di scuola napoletana costruito da Hieronimus Bassi o Baffi nel\n1726. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ma si scriveva prima che l\u2019architettura civile era\nun\u2019eccezione per Giangiacomo noto piuttosto per i suoi interventi nell\u2019edilizia\nmilitare, e all\u2019epoca dello Spedale dello Spirito Santo era &nbsp;impegnato proprio a Lecce nel rafforzamento\ndelle mura urbiche e nella fortificazione del castello cittadino. Di fatto il\nvecchio maniero normanno sar\u00e0 ristrutturato sotto Carlo V, a partire dal&nbsp; 1539, per munirlo di nuove opere difensive\nadeguate alle rinnovate esigenze belliche: tale progetto fu affidato a\nGiangiacomo Dell\u2019Acaya, \u201cIngegnere Generale del Regno\u201d e l\u2019edificio originario\nfinir\u00e0 inglobato nel corpo cinquecentesco, ampliato nelle sue dimensioni con la\nmessa in opera di un\u2019imponente cortina muraria che andava a collegarsi a\nquattro possenti bastioni angolari a punta di lancia. L\u2019ingresso al Castello\nCarlo V avviene di norma dalla Porta Reale, il grande portale d\u2019accesso che\naffaccia verso il centro storico, seppure presenta un\u2019altra entrata sul fronte\nposteriore, la cosiddetta Porta Falsa. Un tempo, per accedere alla fortezza,\nera necessario passare su un ponte levatoio che scavalcava il fossato che\ngirava tutt\u2019intorno alla cortina muraria e interrato nel XIX secolo per ragioni\nigienico-sanitarie. Una volta entrati, ci si trova nell\u2019androne, alla cui\nsinistra si trovava il vecchio posto di guardia e dall\u2019altro lato si accede al\ncorridoio scoperto che concede l\u2019accesso ai camminamenti di ronda e alle\ngallerie sotterranee, corrispondenti al fossato medievale del castello e\nadibite a scuderie nel Cinquecento. <br>\n<br>\nVarcato il grande arco dell\u2019androne, si prosegue in un secondo ambiente che d\u00e0\naccesso all\u2019ex Cappella di S.Barbara e alla sagrestia con gli scavi archeologici\nche mettono in luce i resti medievali del castello, mentre andando oltre si\nesce nel cortile interno. Lungo il lato occidentale di quest\u2019ultimo si apre la\nfacciata della suddetta cappella; su quello settentrionale si profila il\nportico medievale, sotto il quale si collocano gli ambienti che ospitano oggi\nil Museo della Cartapesta. Nell\u2019angolo nord-est si innalza la Torre Magistra\ncon l\u2019ex Cappella di Santa Maria di Costantinopoli nel piano seminterrato;\nsull\u2019angolo opposto, inglobato nell\u2019ambienti cinquecenteschi, la Torre Mozza e\nl\u2019accesso alle prigioni. Questo vano \u00e8 sicuramente tra i pi\u00f9 affascinanti con\nle innumerevoli iscrizioni incise sulle pareti da illustri prigionieri, tra\nlamentazioni, stemmi nobiliari e immagini sacre, principalmente Crocifissioni,\nche sono testimonianza delle vite passate e forse spente in quel luogo. E\nproprio in quella stessa prigione ha tristemente conclusa una gloriosa\nesistenza Giangiacomo Dell\u2019Acaya. Gi\u00e0 anziano e ammalato, il barone-architetto\ngodeva serenamente degli onori e dei meriti di una vita al servizio del Vicer\u00e8\nPedro de Toledo, quando riceve l\u2019ingiunzione di pagamento di un ingente somma a\nfronte di una fideiussione, per la quale non gli sar\u00e0 neanche risparmiata\nl\u2019incarcerazione. Espi\u00f2 la pena nelle prigioni di quello stesso castello di\nLecce che aveva progettato e resa il pi\u00f9 maestoso di Puglia: gravemente malato\ne sorvegliato dai soldati spagnoli, vi trov\u00f2 la morte nel dicembre del 1570.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gli appuntamenti<br>\n<\/strong>Le Associazioni 34Fuso e The Monuments People Aps (www.themonumentspeople.it\n) in accordo con la Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per le\nProvince di Brindisi, Lecce e Taranto organizzano per il 31 luglio 2020, l\u2019evento\ninaugurale \u201cGIAN GIACOMO A LECCE: ARCHITETTURA MILITARE E CIVILE\u201d.
